At its heart, Sunporch Media is founder/President Mark Schlicher. Mark was born with a restless curiosity and imagination. When Mark got into the film and video business, well-meaning friends urged him to specialize. Mark resisted. It was all so much fun and so stimulating. Clients would hire him for one skill or another, but Mark worried that people would get confused.

“Is he a Producer? Is he a Director of Photography? Storyboard artist?” “I thought he was a sales guy.” “Isn’t he a writer?” “Wait, I heard he won an award for a film he edited.” “Didn’t I see him acting in that Ryan’s Steakhouse commercial?”

Gradually, Mark gave up trying to pigeonhole himself, and focused on do the absolute best work he could, whatever he was asked to do. And a funny thing happened. Clients kept calling him, and they referred him to other clients. Mark realized that having all of these hands-on skills allowed him to have a unique perspective: his shooting made him a better director, his storyboarding made him a better director and editor, his directing and editing made him a better shooter. Whatever position he was called upon to do, he could do better because he understands the big picture.

Finally, he decided that allowing his unique gifts to flower not only made every day on every project a blast, but it also resulted in great work for his clients. Mark’s broad and deep base of knowledge, taste, and skills anchors the foundation of Sunporch Media.

At the end of the day, Mark believes that success for himself, and for his clients, is all about a passion for excellence, and a spirit of play.
